Im going to post the recipe now so you dont have to scroll, then Ill tell you the story of why it means so much.
Broccoli Cheese Casserole:
1 Cup of minute rice
1 can cream of celery soup
1/2 cup of milk
1 jar of old english cheddar
1 package of frozen chopped broccoli
1 stick of partially thawed butter
1 small onion
Mix all in a bowl
Bake 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes
Double it for a better time!
So this is the recipe, simple right? For me, this dish is complex with the emotion it packs in. This is my moms favorite dish she makes. I love when my brother learned to make it. I have even made it for my loved ones. This dish screams memories, I remember all the Christmas dinners and Thanksgiving plates that this side dish was tucked in neatly by the main ham or turkey. I remember making this for my future fiance for the first time in her apartment in St. Louis. I remember so late to Friendsgiving in Shelbyville Indiana that I couldnt make it, and I NEVER will be able to hear the end of it.
What dish sparks so many memories for you?
